The Paper Eliza Custom Process

Regarding custom wedding paper, placing an order on the site kickstarts our design process.

Gather Inspiration

Once I receive the order confirmation, I will shoot you an email asking for the exact text you want to use and maybe some inspirational photos that you are loving. I encourage my brides to put together a Pinterest board of design elements, colors, fonts, and illustrations to help me create the perfect first round of proofs. The Paper Eliza instagram is great first place to start ;)

Get Designing

I use the specific elements that you love (think a font from one photo placed within a layout of another with an illustration of your wedding venue) to bring it all together in the design process. Afterwards, I will send over several proofs for you to pick and choose from.

Refine & Perfect

We mix and match, tweak, and perfect it until we land on the perfect product! This process can take a couple of days to a few weeks, depending on how many proofs we create together, while always keeping your timeline at the forefront of our process. We suggest placing your order four weeks from when you want your paper in hand to allow plenty of time for the design, printing and shipping processes.

Semi Custom Wedding Paper

Our semi-custom save the dates, 3 and 4 piece invitation suites have a slightly different process.

Each of the 10 layouts (with fixed fonts) is offered with 16 different ink color options. When adding that product into your cart, you will be prompted to answer several questions requesting the necessary information to help me build out your proofs for you. You are not allowed to change the formatting or other specific text other than the custom information like names, date, location, wedding website, etc. With the invitation suites, we are able to adjust the wording from “Mr. and Mrs. Father’s First Middle Last” to “Together with our families” or another variation of that phrasing. All other text, layout, illustration, or border changes are considered fully custom. If you are looking for a custom border to complement your custom crest, you will want to order a fully custom invitation or save the date product.

I will send the proof over to you via email for you to approve or tweak and once approved, it will be sent off to the printers. Text and line border layouts are included within the price of the products, but you are also able to add on crests, venue illustrations, front of envelope guest address printing and envelope liners. You will have to add those individual products to your cart, in addition to the original products. While fully custom products have unlimited proofs and changes, semi custom products have a maximum of five proof changes.

  • The custom paper process begins when you place your order on my site. I point my potential brides first to my site to play around with quantities, paper types, extras (like a custom crest or guest addressing) you may want to add, to figure out what products best fit your budget and overall vision.

    If you are looking to get your hands on the paper itself, we offer sample boxes that include both paper types, save the dates, invitations, rsvp and additional cards, and their respective envelopes. You can purchase them here https://www.papereliza.com/wedding-collection/wedding-paper-sample-box, and they provide more insight into the products themselves. While the products (the paper types and sizes) remain consistent, the designs are always unique and one of a kind.

    One thing to note though, is to make sure that you have your card count finalized before ordering your paper quantity. If you need to add additional paper throughout the process, you will have to start a new order with a minimum quantity of 50 cards and envelopes, so it is always better to err on the safe side and order more paper than necessary to avoid getting stuck with an excessive number of extras.

  • Once the product is ordered, I’ll follow up with you on the exact text needed to begin to build out the proofs. You'll also send me any fonts, colors, and maybe layouts that you are loving and I will use those elements to build out your custom proofs. I'll send them back your way to either approve or tweak.

    When we have finalized the proofs, I will send the digital files to my contracted printers, who do an incredible job, and will send the finished product onto you within a matter of days.

  • You have unlimited changes to your custom wedding paper suite throughout the custom wedding paper process, but once your paper is approved and finalized (we get your written approval via email), you will be responsible for all changes that you would like made past that proof and will have to repurchase the paper product that you want to make changes on.

  • Yes! We will request specific pieces of information and use text like name, location, date, etc. to build out your custom proofs for you. Paper Eliza tends to use traditional language when building out invitation suite proofs, but save the dates have more leniency when it comes to tradition and have room for more creativity. As always, we work closely with our clients to make sure that text, design, and layout is what they are envisioning. If you have questions about specific parts of an invitation and what is traditionally and accurately used, just ask! We’ve been doing this for a while, ha!

  • We suggest placing your custom paper order about a month out from when you want it in hand. The biggest factor in time to completion in the custom paper process is in the design and proofing stage. The more exact your wedding paper vision, the quicker the design process will take because we will be able to quickly execute proofs that are according to what you want.
